Telnyx, Vonage, Plivo

A carrier you point at Pinecall yourself, with the steps the console walks you through.

Keep your numbers where they are and point them at Pinecall from your carrier's own portal. The console tells you exactly what to type there, and the number rings your agent from its first call.

How it works#

Pinecall knows these carriers and the addresses each one sends calls from. Once a carrier is enabled on your gateway, Pinecall accepts calls from that carrier's addresses, so you do not declare any address yourself. You set one SIP connection in the carrier's portal; Pinecall changes nothing in your carrier account, because it has no access to it.

carrier how you connect it
Telnyx guided: one SIP connection in its portal
Vonage guided: one SIP connection in its portal
Plivo guided: one SIP connection in its portal
Twilio automatic: Pinecall drives its API (Twilio)

Telnyx, Vonage and Plivo must be enabled by whoever runs the gateway (Pinecall, on Pinecall Cloud). Add a number only lists the carriers that are enabled. If yours is not there, ask for it, or connect it as a SIP peer.

Point a number at Pinecall#

Choose the carrier#

On production's console, open Numbers ▸ Add a number and pick your carrier.

Type the number and pick the agent#

Your number in E.164, with the + (+34910555019), and the agent that answers it.

Copy the settings into the carrier's portal#

The console shows what to set on a SIP connection there:

field value
Send calls to the SIP address the console shows, with your number in it; copy it from there
Port and transport 5060 · UDP
Number format E.164, with the +
Authentication by IP: Pinecall already accepts the carrier's addresses

On Telnyx this is an FQDN connection; on Vonage, SIP Connect. Then put the number on that connection.

Add the number, then call it#

Press Add number, then call the number from any phone. The console shows Waiting for the first call and turns green the moment a call reaches Pinecall: The number rings the agent.

Until the first call arrives, the Numbers screen shows the number as Not reaching us yet. Open it to see its path: the carrier, the fence, sandbox or production, and the agent, each with what would fix it.

If the first call does not turn it green, check that the number is on the SIP connection and that the connection sends to the address the console showed.

What these numbers cannot do#

  • Call out. A number you pointed here from a portal dials through no account Pinecall holds, so an agent cannot place a call from it. To call out, use your own Twilio account or a SIP peer with an outbound host.
  • Be listed for you. Pinecall cannot read your account at these carriers, so you type each number.
  • Show a phone cost. Pinecall prices Twilio's calls only. A call through another carrier is recorded with its minutes, and its phone leg is listed as unpriced; your carrier bills it.

Where the gateway asks to approve numbers pointed by hand, a new number also waits for that approval, and its path says so.
